Yayasan Pengguna Negara Malaysia, Wilayah Sarawak had successful organized “Influenza Vaccination” Program with collaboration with Kuching Padawan Foochow Association, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Pengguna Sarawak, JCI Batu Kawa & Alpro Clinic.

Influenza Vaccination or the “flu shot,” is an annual vaccine designed to protect against circulating influenza strains, reducing infection risk by up to 60%. It is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and older, especially vulnerable groups.
Common side effects include temporary soreness, redness, or low-grade fever, with protection starting about two weeks post-vaccination.

Yearly vaccination is required due to decreasing immunity and changing circulating strains. In Malaysia, it is recommended before peak seasons (May-July and November-January).
Recommended for everyone 6 months and older, particularly young children, elderly (60+), pregnant women, and those with chronic conditions.

Most are inactivated influenza vaccines (shot), while some options include live-attenuated vaccines (nasal spray). Quadrivalent vaccines, which cover four strains, are commonly used.
Side Effects: Generally mild, including soreness at the injection site, aches, and low-grade fever.

Why Get Vaccinated
Reduces Severity: The vaccine decreases the risk of serious complications and lessens the severity of symptoms.
Prevents Spread: Vaccination helps prevent the spread of the virus, which is critical for protecting vulnerable individuals.
Annual Update: The vaccine is updated each year by the World Health Organization (WHO) to match the most commonly circulating flu strains.
